By devin becoming a professional pilot is no harder than becoming a professional in any other industry. Yes, you will need to work hard and starting pay is less than stellar but that is common in most professions. Pilots love to complain about the starting pay and hours, but you never hear any of them quitting and getting a 40 hour a week desk job. That should tell you something!.

Its very hard to get into the raf as a pilot, they literally only take the best of the best. I remember one year they were looking for 70 people and literally had thousands and thousands of people applying for each post. I hate to break to you but at 6'5" i am certain that you wont get into fast jet track, pretty sure the limit is around 6'2" for that. You might have more luck with the other tracks particularly flying transports and that kind of thing. Your best bet is to approach your local raf recruiting center and ask them.

Married almost 9 years with three kids, airline pilot for the last three. It's hard being away, no way of sugar coating it. The best advice i've received "if your heart is in the cockpit your marriage will suffer, if you leave it at home it will continue to flourish. "being gone is hard, but having multiple days off is really nice. You can do things with wife and kids during the week that would be difficult working the 9-5. I love taking my kids to school and picking them up for example.
